Pros and Cons for Purchasing from Car Dealers

Aug 22, 02:29 PM

There are certain advantages from purchasing from a car dealer as well as disadvantages. Advantages They usually have a large selection of used cars
They are more inclined to stand by the warranties if they offer you one.
You can usually get new care dealers to service your used car before purchasing *but that is not always the case as many of them will say the car will be serviced and all they are doing is changing the oil.

Some of their cars are new car dealer trades: one-owner cars.
Some new car dealers, but very few, have the cars fully checked before they put them up for sale.

Most new car dealers do have service facilities on premises in case you have problems with the car after you purchase it.
Some of them will replace defective parts with dealer parts instead of cheap after market parts.
A new car dealer will not disappear overnight.

Disadvantages
The salesmen are trained to tell you what you want to hear instead of telling you the truth. The salesman has no idea about the car they are selling you as they are only SALESMEN.

Most of them will try to sell you things you do not need, for example extended warrantees when the car already has an extended warrantee, has already been purchased from that and is transferable. They will not tell you and just try to sell another warrantee where the original warrantee can be transferred to you for $25.00 or so. DO NOT BE PRESSURED!!!!!!!!!! There are so many tricks to the trade that these salesman are specially trained for.

Most car dealers sell huge amount of used cars and stock a huge inventory of used cars. Its hard enough to find one good car so many of their cars do have certain problems that they will not tell you about or that they are unaware of.

Many car dealers have body shops on their premises and buy cars that were in accidents. They have the capacity to fix these cars to look like new even though they were in accidents. We do not advise buying any car involved in an accident. It takes a professional to see what they are trying to sell you.

Be very weary of car dealers who want you to sign a contract before you have the car checked and make sure that if you do sign anything that your money is refundable based on the technicians report.

If the dealer does not want you to test drive the car or won’t allow a technician to check the car, WALK AWAY FROM THE DEAL. If you get a bad feeling from the dealer go by your instincts, as instincts are usually correct.

No matter what they promise you, or no matter how pretty the car looks ALWAYS have that car checked out by a technician who specializes checking used cars and not by a regular garage mechanic who changes parts all day, as there is a huge difference in the knowledge they carry.

Keep in mind that they are in the business of SELLING you a car and they have the capacity for making the car look brand new even though it is nothing but a LEMON. DO NOT BE PRESSURED- by them saying they already have a buyer and you must buy the car today.

Buying from a individual
Make sure the title matches the serial number on the car
Ask to see the service records, although many people do not keep them
Don’t be afraid to ask questions about the car.

DON’T FEEL PRESSURED BY them telling you they have a buyer for the car and you need to buy it right away or that the car will be sold to someone else.
Many individuals selling cars from the house are really dealers; this does not mean the car is a lemon.

Go by your instincts – as if you have a bad feeling walk away from it. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE IT CHECKED BY A competent automotive technician.
If the deal seems too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true.
